Two Souls

Two special souls went separate ways,

And when they were sent to earth,

They swore with an oath,

Saying that they would both,

Search for each other at birth.

Throughout their lives they felt inside,

A wonderful feeling replete,

But in their hearts they looked back,

For something they lacked,

That kept them from being complete.

Then came the time their paths would cross,

For God, in His holy design,

Had chosen the day,

That the oaths that they made,

Be fulfilled in a union divine.

So, on the morn of that great day,

These two children of God, so pure,

Saw in each others’ eyes,

That they realized,

That ne’er would they search anymore.

And in the house of God Himself,

While the veil of Heaven they rend,

Just as up above,

They renewed a love,

That had no beginning or end.

With the blessings of God bestowed on them,

And their hearts and souls entwined,

This husband and wife,

Begin their new life,

Together ‘till the end of time.

Aborted

Dear Mom,

I wish that I could talk to you,

That you could hear my voice,

But, I’ll have to be content with this,

Now that you made your choice.

All I wanted was to be loved,

Was that so bad a thing?

To wake up each and every day,

Part of a family?

Did you think that no one else,

Could love me as their own?

Why couldn’t you have sought them out,

And a little mercy shown?

How could you treat me like you did?

A sacred wonder rob,

Did it matter not, to you,

That I’m a child of God?

So many things I’ll never do,

Dreams left unfulfilled,

So many things I’ll never be,

Because you had me killed.

Why did you take away my chance?

Why didn’t you let me try?

Why didn’t you want me as your child?

Why did I have to die?

Later in the years to come,

Should you again conceive,

Would you think but of yourself,

And your “burden” again relieve?

But it doesn’t matter now,

No way to change my fate,

Why did you have to see the joys,

The joys of life, too late?

Please rest assured that I’m amongst,

Those in a better place,

I have to wonder what you’ll say,

When we meet face to face.

Now I must go. I bid farewell,

To a would-be mother, vile,

This humble note from me, above,

Your aborted, would-be child.

A Dream of Salvation

One night while I was in my bed,

Sleeping deeply so it seemed,

Enveloped in tranquility,

Then in my mind I dreamed.

I found myself amidst a field,

And down a path I trod,

I saw that it was not too long,

Before I stood before my God.

I stood there unsure what to say,

Not knowing what to feel,

Was I still sleeping in my bed?

Or was this visit real?

He gazed at me with tender eyes,

And he looked as if to speak,

With knowledge of the wrongs I’ve done,

My soul inside felt weak.

He said, “My son, I’m glad your back,

“Oh, how I’ve missed you so,

“I’ve watched you ever since you left,

“You’ve been gone a while you know.”

His expression changed and then He spoke,

“But my dear son I wish to say,

“That I have sorrowed in my heart,

“For some decisions that you made.”

“I hoped you’d always choose the right,

“Walking down a goodly path,

“For I could not wait ‘till your return,

“So I could give you all I hath.”

“But alas, my son, you too must wait,

“Until your debt of sin is paid,”

He wept, but said, “All is not lost,

“For Atonement had been made.”

I turned around and there beheld,

A man praying against a tree,

I knew at once this must be Christ,

In that place Gethsemane.

And then before my very eyes,

I watched this King of Kings,

Take upon Him all my sins,

So I could be redeemed.

My eyes could not endure the sight,

Of this man who would be crowned,

Lord of all, from end to end,

Shedding His blood upon the ground.

My heart then broke as I recalled,

My sinful, careless times,

And wept as I knew just how many,

Of those precious drops were mine.

And then the Master said to me,

When His suffering was o’er,

“Thy sins have been forgiven thee,

“Now go, and sin no more.”

I woke up from my humbling dream,

Then reached down to kiss my wife,

Thankful for a second chance,

To have the Savior touch my life.

A Celestial Morning

Sunshine peeks above the hills,

Shining light across the plains,

The morning seems to come alive,

As we begin this joyous day.

Birds are singing lullabies,

Seated high among the trees,

Branches swaying to and fro,

Amidst the gentle breeze.

Holy feelings emanate,

And are felt for miles around,

Two hearts and souls will be united,

In a simple Utah town.

Within the home of the Most High,

Shining radiant and bright,

Sits a woman, soft and fair,

Adorned in brilliant white.

Anticipation fills her soul,

She is overcome with bliss,

For someone soon will give to her,

His love and happiness.

A righteous man of God is he,

Walking down a goodly path,

And honoring his priesthood,

Doing all his Father asks.

His mind and soul are overcome,

As he soon will do his part,

To lead and guide his family,

With a true and caring heart.

With hands, and hearts, entwined they walk,

And joined by those they love,

They enter the sealing room,

To pledge with God above.

Then once inside this sacred place,

We find that they can see,

The mirrors show them side by side,

For all eternity.

They’re kneeling at the altar,

To be bound for all of time,

To be partakers of God’s promise,

And to feel His love sublime.

The Sealer speaks prophetic words,

Of blessing and advice,

And then the two are joined forever,

In the house of Jesus Christ.

Walking from the Temple,

Thinking of nothing other,

Than the gift they have been given,

As they start their lives together.

Joseph Smith

A great new day was prophesied,

By righteous men of old,

And like the birth of Jesus Christ,

Its coming long foretold.

For far too long did man reside,

In religious doubt and myth,

Until, at last, the Lord brought forth,

His servant Joseph Smith.

A simple boy of just fourteen,

In the middle of his youth,

Began a search from church to church,

That he may know the truth.

His quest had brought forth no results,

No church could fit the mold,

Not one, for all their words and show,

Was the church of Christ of old.

So Joseph knelt before his Lord,

To know which one was right,

Then God and Jesus Christ, His son,

Appeared in brilliant light,

Christ told him to join none of them,

Their works and creeds were wrong,

They’ve wandered off the path, and so,

Christ’s name did not belong.

Instead He told young Joseph Smith,

Of a greater work to do,

And how he would again rebuild,

The church of Christ anew.

So, Joseph did as God had said,

As he grew from boy to man,

With all his might to do the work,

To bring to pass God’s plan.

We all know that Joseph Smith,

Endured the greatest strife,

And to do the will of God above,

He placed aside his life.

Now, we can wonder to ourselves,

Of how our fate would lie,

Had Joseph Smith not persevered,

But stood there, idly by.

Would Satan’s hold increase in strength,

Upon the hearts of men?

How long would Heaven’s doors be shut,

Before God tried again?

How many souls would not be touched,

But left there in the dark?

How many missions overseas,

Would no one have embarked?

So much that we are basking in,

The progress that we’ve made,

May not have ever come to pass,

Had Joseph’s hand been stayed.

As Joseph overcame all things,

Then so should you and I,

Our tests, in ways, are much the same,

As long as we all try.

We have so much to be thankful for,

Of which is Joseph Smith,

For all he did to free us from,

This haze of doubt and myth.

I thank the Lord that all is thus,

As it has taken place,

For all God’s children that enjoy,

The warmth of His embrace.

And all of those about to hear,

Good news and shouts of joy,

Of a book from God, and then about,

This fourteen-year old boy.

We thank the Lord for those before

Who paid the greatest price,

To build again for all mankind,

This church of Jesus Christ.

Woman

There sat a father with his son,

To spend some time alone,

Away from all the cares and noise,

And tumult of their home.

The scene was calm but for the waves,

That their tiny raft provoked,

Then this young man, now twelve years old,

Turned to his dad and spoke.

“Why did God put Woman here?

“Why not let Adam be?

“He could run and play all by himself,

“He’d be happier. Don’t you see?”

Then thought the father to himself,

How could he teach his son,

That Man would ever more be lost,

Were it not for Woman?

“I’ll tell you, son,” the father said,

“How Woman came to be,

“And why she has a greater role,

“Than to raise a family.”

“When Adam had been placed on earth,

“Those many years ago,

“One thing that Adam had to do,

“Was learn to love, and grow.”

“But Adam was no humble man,

“His love of self unfeigned,

“He dwelt in Eden all alone,

“And in selfishness he reigned.”

“God saw the way that things turned out,

“And He wondered what to do,

“Then God said, ‘I’ll make someone,

“‘Who will set him straight and true.’”

“So God sat down to think about,

“How to make this perfect being,

“What would she need to truely shine,

“As his angel and his queen?”

“The first thing that God had to do,

“Was give an ample heart,

“So she could love this calloused man,

“And charity impart.”

“God gave to her a gentle touch,

“And a soft and caring voice,

“Tools to use to teach this man,

“To make the righteous choice.”

“Finally, she was given beauty,

“Matched only by her soul,

“And placed in Eden so she could,

“Fulfill her special role.”

“All things went as God had hoped,

“According to design,

“And Man from then on grew to love,

“And reach for the divine.”

“Now that is why,” the father said,

“That God put Woman here,

“And why Men will always see in her,

“The sacred, and revere.”

When Tomorrow Comes

When tomorrow comes, you’ll find the one,

With whom none can compete,

In whose arms you may reside,

Who will make you feel complete.

When tomorrow comes, you will be joined,

To them for all of time,

To be partakers of God’s promise,

And to feel His love divine.

When tomorrow comes, you’ll have a child,

That will grow up righteously,

With both their parents at their side,

Loving them undauntedly.

When tomorrow comes, you’ll look around,

At grandchildren many fold,

Seeing the way their lives have brought you,

Such happiness untold.

When tomorrow comes, you’ll see the Lord,

And with glory you’ll be shown,

All the wonders of eternity,

As you are placed atop your throne.

Choices lay before you now,

So, make them all with care,

Please know that to the Lord you are,

Something precious, something rare.

The Pearl of Great Price

There once was a man of Israel,

A Collector of sorts, you may say,

Whose life was renewed,

Blessed and imbued,

Through events of one special day.

Trader of both rare and the precious,

He had luxury, plaudits, and fame,

And wherever he’d go,

There were people who’d know,

Or, at least had heard of his name.

But, alas, amidst his possessions,

His heart was still not content,

For his quest he had failed,

O’er seas he had sailed,

For that thing which his life had been spent.

Yet, still he determined to have it,

And he knew nothing less would suffice,

Though, as yet he owned not,

That thing which he sought,

Was the glorious Pearl of Great Price.

The word came to him in the market,

That the lustrous Pearl had been found,

And the Man who could show him,

Though he did not know Him,

Was on a boat just outside of town.

This Man had said He could offer,

What the Collector had sought all his days,

When this he had learned,

His soul in him burned,

And he told Him the price he would pay,

So, he pledged Him his fortune and holdings,

He cared not of his wealth, for he knew,

That if the Pearl he would gain,

He would have to obey,

Whatsoever the Man told him to do.

The Man said the way was simple,

But his conviction must be made known,

He must dive into the deep,

And continue to seek,

If ever the Pearl he would own,

So, the Collector obeyed and dove in,

Leaving behind all his cares and vice,

And just within sight,

Shining and bright,

Was the radiant Pearl of Great Price.

The Collector had finally acquired that thing,

He had searched for since he was a boy,

Every time he would wear it,

Or be with friends and share it,

It brought him a fullness of joy.

The Collector we see depicts you and me,

As one of God’s many elite,

Amidst wages and earnings,

For something we’re yearning,

To make our lives wholly complete.

The Pearl for which we’re seeking,

Is the gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ,

When once we obtain it,

We can never refrain it,

From improving and blessing our life.

The Man are those who are chosen,

By God to His message convey,

They are told to go share it,

And boldly declare it,

To God’s children in every way.

The Waters are those of baptism,

That we must enter to show our desire,

When we make that choice,

God’s Angels rejoice,

As we are cleansed by spiritual fire.

Oh, my friends I implore in humility,

Embrace the gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ,

Because, to the great and the small,

It is choice, above all,

The invaluable Pearl of Great Price!
