 MY BODY IS A TEMPLE

My body’s like a temple that sits on the highest hill Out in plain view, so all can see how much it’s glowing still

It sparkles and it radiates when it is filled with light The light from heaven enters in, when it’s kept clean and bright

“How do I keep you bright and clean?” I asked my body then.

And he replied, “You must let only good things enter in.”

“You hurt my pride! Oh body dear, if e’er you think I had Consumed a bit of food or thought, a part of which was bad!”

“A-HA!” he groaned. “Just as I thought! You’re not even aware Of all the things that you let in that we both have to share

“Give me a clue!” I told him next, “and tell me what you mean!

Have I had food, or thought, by chance, that has not been so clean?”

“Well, let us first discuss the food,” he said, “Some items which You choose to eat and drink, and have for snacks... they are too rich”

“The choc’late, candy, grease, and salt… hard for me to digest And all the other junk food, pop and chips, are not the best”

But then there is some other stuff not made for eat nor drink Tobacco, drugs, some pills and shots… I hope you do not think--“

“That these were ever made for you to take in any way I do not like that kind of stuff!” I heard my body say

The third thing now, I warn you of, is that which I most dread Some music, movies, TV, and news that you let in your head

“These do not hurt my body much; my stomach feels fine But where it injures, wounds, and cuts, is in my fragile mind!”

“Be careful, now, with what you read, and look, and listen to It may not make my stomach ache, or give me the spring flu

“But sure as shootin’ it will scratch the walls of my keen mind And it might hurt my spirit’s eyes, in fact, they might go blind!”

And so, it was, I and my body had a talk one day He won me over to his side; I vouched that I would stay—

Away from all the harmful things that he told me about From this time on, my temple would shine bright both in and out!
