Earth's Testimony

Just like the trees know
When autumn is here
Christ knew his time had come
The end was drawing near.

Like the trees that lose their leaves
And sleep 'til winter is done
Only to awaken in the spring
Leaves reaching for the sun.

Christ emerged from his tomb
His ministry just begun
And we, like the leaves
Are reaching for the SON.

The Farmer

To my father Verlon Terry Scott

He's all toughness...
(the teddybear).
Rough, calloused hands,
He wears.
Each year he plows
and plants the ground;
Tucking each seed in,
Safe and sound.
He is in league with God
You see...
Working for God,
Doing miracles,
For you and me.
He has such faith,
When he plants that seed.
More faith than most of us can profess
Indeed
He KNOWS when he tucks
That seed in the ground
That miracles
Will shortly abound.
He watches the tender leaves peek out
From their moist, dirt door.
Reaching for the sun,
Their life-giving force.
He tends to what once was a seed,
Knowing it will become much more...
Now that it's freed.
He watches it grow and mature
to the end.
The seed, now a plant
Has become his friend.
He doesn't realize
He's working for God,
And I sometimes wonder
If God thinks that's odd.
The farmer doesn't think
He could be that important to HIM...
But the seed didn't think
The farmer thought much of him.

The Light Sharer

To my father-in-law Gary Stringham Edmonds

Your eyes saw,
But they did not judge.
Your mouth spoke
of God's never ending love.
Your ears listened
to my long list of woes.
You found me in the dark
you shared with me the light that eternal glows.
Your kind, loving spirit helped me to heal
my inward pain.
You were beside me as I rid myself
of all of my shame.
You helped me see
all that I could be.
Through you I learned
that God REALLY DID love me!
I have no way to repay
all that you have done.
You are my hero
my heart you have won.
Forever grateful to you
I will be...
For sharing the light
that has set me free!

Author's Comments:
"My father-in-law is an extrodinary man. I am a convert to the church and he has helped me through much pain and counseled me in times of need. He was there to listen to me when I needed someone to talk to, and could not go to my own dad. I love him as much as my own dad, I am proud to call him my FATHER(-in-law)."

My Grandmother

To my maternal Grandmother, Permulea Marie Lewis (maiden name Long)

My dear, sweet grandmother
Do you know what you are?
You are a ray of light
From the most brilliant star!

You chase out the darkness
Of many lives dreary;
Filling empty souls with love
Never complaining or weary.

You reached into
The deepest parts of my soul
revealing things of beauty
I had not seen or known.

You gave to me
Love unconditional
Never expecting anything
And, not once, ever critical.

"I love you!" does not express
The feelings that I have for you.
There is much more to it, than love
I simply cannot find words that will do!

One day, we will meet again,
In another world above
Where you can search deeply, my soul...
Only then will you know the extent of my love.

The Most Valiant Of All

To all mother's everywhere

Out of all God's children
There was a valiant generation
Chosen to come to earth
In the last dispensation.

Who could HE depend on
To teach this courageous few?
For the last days were to be
The most trying, HE knew.

God needed someone
To prepare the way
For God's bravest souls to come
In these last days.

Out of those to come
HE had a special call,
For those who had been
The most valiant of all.

This very select group
Were to guide the others,
The most valiant of all...
HE chose to be mothers.

My Father The Artist

To my Heavenly Father

My father is an artist
One so divine.
He is awesomely talented
This father of mine.

He painted a picture
A creation so fine
Then brought it to life
With a sprinkle of sunshine.

He brought forth the ocean
The land and the seas
Flowers for my mother
And big, shady trees.

He loved the angel's singing
So pure and so strong
So, it's an angels lullaby,
In a bird's song.

He gave his creations,
To children like me.
For us to enjoy them,
Each day that we breathe.

He created this world,
Just as he created me.
I am part of his painting
Because his Son set me free.

Autumns Performers

Crisp, falling colors
of orange, yellow and red
Giddy as a child, I whirl around
Autumns snowflakes falling about my head

What is it about this season
That fills me with such glee?
I watch in awe as God's little performers
Put on their colorful dresses and dance about free

Waltzing with the wind
In that never-forgotten dance
A spectacular production!
Will they do an encore, perchance?

But these little performers
Are rather quite shy
They perform only once
And then rest at my feet with a sigh.

Nature's Ballet

"Pit,pat-pit, pat"
They say.
The raindrops are calling me
"Please come away!"

Nature is doing a performance
You see
All of nature has come
To perform...just for me!

The lightning begins
It's entrance a sight!
Then the thunder roars on...
To keep from getting stage fright.

Then the rain, it drops
And dances with mirth
Swishing and swaying
And cleansing the earth.

Then the grand finale' begins
And the wind so bravely shows face.
It gathers nature's company
And exits with grace.

The Little Flower

Pretty, little flower
all yellow and gay!
Always pleasantness and smiles
that is your way!

You capture the sunshine
and the essence of the morning dew
Sharing them with every passing creature
who adores your radiant hue.

God clothed you in gold
and gave you all you need,
Sunshine, water and soil
but you started out as a seed.

God takes care of all
the birds, flowers and trees.
If God cares so for a flower
don't you think he cares for me?

A Slice Of Heaven

To Corbin Terry Edmonds

Sunshine in your smile
innocence in your eyes,
So full of wonder
asking all your, "why's?"

The angels took a piece of Heaven
and formed it into you.
They kissed your hair with sunshine,
and your hands with mischief too!

The angels loved you so much
yet, they sent you down to me
Knowing that I would love you too
a slice of Heaven you cannot help but be.

Death of a Loved One

To my mother Lorna Lee Lewis

The sun covered her face,
with clouds,
So she did not have to see;
The anger and emotions,
boiling inside of me.

Tearing, ripping
and pulling me apart.
Taking my poor mother,
and crushing my young heart.

Then;
the sun was crying
tears,
falling from her cloudy handkerchief,
touching my face,
my hands,
my inner screams.
