The House Of My Heart

The day was almost over and I watched the setting sun,

There was much left to do for the new day to come.

My thoughts turned to my tasks still left incomplete,

And the long awaited guest that I finally would meet.

I wanted each room of my house to be at its best,

So I quickened my pace; there was no time to rest.

I cleaned all the corners and scrubbed every wall,

I swept and I dusted each room, large and small.

I was eager to show my dear guest inside,

Content with each room, my heart filled with pride.

Then with one final glance, as my eyes viewed each spot

I felt sick in my heart, for one place I forgot;

One small closet filled with junk through the years

Refreshed my mind as it filled me with tears.

Perhaps He won't notice, I thought with such shame

But I knew that it was for this reason He came.

Then my heart filled with hope as He entered my place

And I saw such a look of love on His face.

For though He was pleased with the rest of my home,

He knew that this task I could not bear alone.

As we worked side by side I beheld a new view;

For His purpose in coming was to make things anew.

As we finished the chore, He called me by name

With His arms wrapped around me, I felt no more shame.

The house of my heart, now a mansion so bright

Was changed and transformed by the warmth of His light.
