Few modern sculptors
have spent the hours of study, prayer, and contemplation concerning the
Master’s appearance and character as the Renowned Sculptor artist DJ
Bawden. One must see his works to comprehend their significance and
beauty. DJ has rapidly become known as one of Americas outstanding master
artists. His pieces range in size from twelve-foot monuments to just five
inches tall, in beautifully molded luminous marble stone and solid bronze.
Capturing his subjects' likeness, and spirit seems to be effortless as you
gaze into the eyes of the Savior.
Bawden’s diverse
interests are skillfully demonstrated in Sculptures as well as paintings
and drawings of the religious nature. As a child, Bawden demonstrated an
early interest in sculpture and was turning out sculptures, and selling
several bronze statues before graduating high school. His early years were
focused primarily in western theme: bronze animals, mountain men, and
Indians. Since 1980, he has done numerous religious works, including life
size bust of Christ, and larger than life Christus monuments, as well as
various commissioned monuments for schools and businesses.
DJ was born in Salt Lake
City, Utah to Artist parents, his father Dale John Bawden was a wood
carver and his mother Lucille was an Illustrator. DJ has studied at the
University of Utah under noted sculptor, Ed Fraughton. DJ’s artwork has
been in galleries and privately owned through out the world, and his
monuments now dot the globe for all to enjoy.
Some of his most recent works included... "A Time to Dance"
depicting the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr, in his Nauvoo Legion uniform, and
Emma, in her finest dress, together, as they dance during some of the
happier times while in Nauvoo. Other new works include a new
27" version of "Eyes Westward", a ten foot version of
"The First Vision" that will be placed in the Joseph Smith
Memorial Building in Salt Lake City, Utah. DJ is also currently working on
new Limited Editions sculptures depicting scenes from the Old and New
Testament that we will all one
day enjoy.
